Science Backs Current Horticulture Trends

April 24, 2018

According to new research provided in this Forbes article, current horticulture trends are backed by science. Understand your customers’ needs and communicate plants value points with this new data.¬†

Mental Wellness Spaces and Zen Gardens

Customers are creating spaces to get a deep breath of fresh air. Even the latest Pantone choices for color of the year in 2018 and 2017 represent this trend. Now, research shows that touching plants reduces both¬†physiological and psychological stress. It’s also shown that soil contains¬†“outdoorphins” which are essentially natural¬†antidepressants by encouraging your brain to release more serotonin. In fact, studies show that plants encourage faster healing.

Science Says Plants Clean Indoor Air

Last month, we published a blog all about plant’s pollution cleansing capabilities. Along with the ever-increasing metropolitan areas and apartment renters, indoor garden spaces are more than a trend. As homes grow smaller, the need for nature increases.

Studies show the following pollutants are rampant in indoor spaces:

  • asbestos
  • mold
  • radon
  • formaldehyde
  • benzene
  • carbon monoxide
Studies also show that rooms with plants contain 60% less airborne molds and bacteria.

Other Fascinating Results

Encouraging plants in the workplace is ideal for a reason. Not only does it increase your shopper demographic, but plants improve employee performance. Research shows that plants improve concentration, memory retention, productivity, creative performance and problem-solving skills.

The Forbes article also mentions that plants even act as a natural humidifier. A great way to promote plants during the winter months! Get customers thinking about their indoor spaces again.

Add These Results to Your Label Design

What’s great about this data is that it makes for digestible value point advertising on your labels. Promote the statistics with small graphics, or even use a booklet-style label to extend your space to fully explain the research. It’s also impactful for your imagery. Use photography or graphics that represent clean air, tranquility, and productivity.

About Luxury Gardens

Luxury gardens are popping up in New York patios and restraints to bring the natural world back into the concrete jungle. The High Line, a public garden walkway created on old rail tracks, it a major contributor to the growing trend. In fact, growing plants within city limits is becoming a bigger priority across the world. So, naturally, a luxe take featuring secret garden style patios and hot tub getaways are blooming onto the scene.

Where Luxury Gardens Intersect With Other Trends

Zen gardens, mental wellness spaces, and handcrafted aesthetics are all leading the way. Which means that luxury is available for everyone when working within these themes. Many use fire pits and waterfalls in their luxurious landscapes, but for the mid-size house, or high-rise apartment, the same intention can be achieved on a smaller scale. Indoor water gardens, glowing garden accessories, and

DIYers Are Taking On The Trend

As mentioned, the handcrafted look is one of the styles becoming chic. This makes it easy for those using small spaces to create their own slice of paradise. Connect customers to tutorials using labeling technology, or promote classes to give customers a one on one lesson. A part of the luxe shopping experience is receiving personalized, devoted care. Mimic that by offering personalized blog posts, videos, and apps for plants, then link to them right on the label.
