Reasons Why Millennials Are Having Plants Instead of Kids

Many young adults can’t afford to have children. On top of that, they can’t afford to buy property either. So, a lot of millennials live in metropolitan apartments where pets aren’t allowed and the cost of living is high. Plants become one of their only options to care for something. It may not be one or the other for a lot of young adults as well. Instead, many prefer the simple care of a succulent to the lifetime commitment of raising a child.

On top of this, many millennials are health conscious and love the fresh air plants offer. For those living in a city, but dreaming of meditating in a quiet, peaceful wooded glen, plants offer them an escape. They bring a sense of tranquility to their apartments and turn their space into a home.

Help Young Adults Find Horticulture Success

It wasn’t so long ago that it seemed like millennials needed to be persuaded into enjoying plants. Instead, it may seem that greenhouses simply need to connect to young people. This means getting on social media, creating convenient packaging and sharing helpful content. If customers are left in the dark with regards to how to care for their new plant, they may lose interest in the industry. Use booklet-style labels, NFC labeling technology, and online social media support to engage and enhance the customer experience.
