Plant tags and labels are prime opportunities to prepare the customer on how to care for the item. One small tip educates uncertain growers without being overwhelming. It doesn’t require a lot of space either, saving you valuable room on your packaging.

10. Succulents

If your customer is purchasing a Sempervivum, let them know that the plant will bloom after a few years. Once the flower dies, suggest to gently twist the stock off. If customers are expecting a bloom right away, this note will encourage them to have patience with the plant and themselves.

9. Air Plants

Let customers know on the plant tag or label that the size of the globe effects circulation. This means, the smaller the globe, the less watering. Alternatively, communicate, or show using a graphic, what an air plant looks like when it is ready to be watered.

8. Florals

Use a simple graphic to let customers know how fast the floral grows. For some, this could be crucial information to have when filling out their garden.

7. Evergreens

Let customers know which evergreens are ideal for privacy purposes. Again, a simple graphic does the trick if labeling space is limited.

6. Vegetables

What is a simple, natural recipe to get rid of common pests? In a pinch, customers can use your recipe featuring ingredients around the house before they even log on to Pinterest.

5. Herbs

Let customers know the best fertilization practices. For new gardeners, fertilization is an overwhelming practice. Make it simple. For each plant, when should they fertilize and how does that differ between the garden and the container?

4. Fruits

With metropolitan areas growing in population, customers will want to know what fruit can be grown indoors. Make mention of fruit that can also handle low light growing situations for basement apartment dwellers.

3. Annuals

Explain how to collect and save seeds for next year’s garden. If you have the space, also explain how to organize these seeds during winter so they are easy to locate.

2. Perennials

Teach customers how and when to trim back their plants. Provide a visual reference like a graphic or photograph.

1. Re-Use & Recycle Plant Tags

Sustainability is an increasingly hot topic. By making your labels and plant tags more informational, they become more valuable to keep as a reference guide. Alternatively, by doubling your labels or parts of your tag as coupons, they get a second life. Or, show customers how to repurpose tags to create something helpful for the garden like this gardening journal and these fairy garden pictures.
