The customer is always right. Or are they? Would you let customers influence your business decisions? What if the very thing you’re collaborating on will impact their decision to return to you for business? Chances are that lending an ear becomes much more appealing when the potential to increase sales is on the table.
Customers Know What They Need
While inexperienced growers may not understand gardening basics, too much information can overwhelm them. New growers and experienced growers alike know what information is important to them when deciding on what plant to get and how they like that information to be presented. Some may want simple graphics detailing the perks of the plant, while others may want to be linked to a video tutorial.
Your customers will also have design preferences. While minimalism is trending in every industry, customers also desire content. Alternatively, customers may want to tell you to ease up on a crowded label. This could guide you toward using booklet-style labels in order to provide a more visually appealing look.
Influence Doesn’t Equal Control
Sending out a survey to understand your customers is different from inviting them in on a design meeting. Customers aren’t able to crunch the numbers on this investment with you, but they have valuable instincts. Even the act of listening to their concerns will have a positive influence on how they see your brand.
Get creative with how you receive this information. Invite customers to return ugly packaging for recycling and collect data on what comes back. Hold a contest for label design. Even incorporate video and imagery into your surgery. A “which do you prefer” face-off between two labels is far more engaging than a text only sliding scale.
